Non-profit organization, Osa Ecology, is pioneering the use of citizen science with their new app that allows tourists, guides, and locals to record animal sightings on the Osa Peninsula. The app creates a collaborative effort among local scientists, community members, and visiting tourists to change how conservation research is done. Most visitors to the Osa Peninsula are enthusiastic nature lovers, and now everyone can be involved in the effort to record the abundance of species of this area!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
This mobile application is targeted for anyone and everyone — it is free, easy to use, and available to anyone with an Android smart phone.
Upon sighting an animal, users can record GPS locations, upload photos, and share this information with others on the app in two ways:
1. Open the application and make the sighting.
2. Take a photo with a camera, which will have the option to send the information to Osa Ecology to record your sighting.
We created a pre-populated list of key species and their descriptions to help you identify wildlife you're seeing. As users upload new sightings, we'll continually be adding more to this list. You can also keep track of all the Sightings you've made by creating a login on the app — we can't wait to see what you see!
